  Christened the USS Maine, at teh ship's launching on July, 27, 1901 in Philadelphia. The ship was commissioned on 29 Dec 1902 with hull number BB-10 and the first of a new class of battleship. The new ship replaced the USS Maine that sank in Havana Harbor in 1888.
