2005 IRVING Family Reunion

The first family reunion for the IRVING side of the family was held at the White Mountain Hotel and Resort in North Conway, New Hampshire Friday May 20 th through Sunday May 22 nd 2005. For a first reunion it was quite a success. A total of 35 family members attended the event many of whom met for the first time. Relatives traveled from the northeast states of Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New York as well as from Virginia and as far away as Texas and Washington. There were 4 generations represented ranging from age 6 to 93. We all met in the hospitality suite Friday evening, several enjoyed the hotel’s Friday Night Seafood Buffet in the dining room.

We were up until the wee hours Friday getting acquainted or re-acquainted with each other. Several folks were up and out early on Saturday morning for a walk around Echo Lake which due to a couple of wrong turns ended up as a two hour hike. Our 93 year old not only succeeded in completing the entire hike, but from what I hear was leading the pack.

Some folks took a train ride on Saturday on the Conway Scenic Railroad. Other activities for the day included shopping and golf. We all attended the banquet in the ballroom Saturday evening followed by rearranging the hotel’s lobby to take group pictures by the fireplace then returned to the hospitality suite to look at and scan more old pictures. Sunday morning several car-loads had to get an early start so they had breakfast and headed out. The remaining crew enjoyed Sunday Brunch before packing up to head home. The weather could have been a lot better but it could have been worse also. It started raining during dinner on Saturday and rained the rest of the weekend. As a matter of fact as of Thursday as I write this it is still raining.

All in all a great time was had by all and it was decided to repeat the event at the same location, hopefully every two years. So as of right now the next reunion is VERY TENTATIVELY scheduled for May 18 th through May 20 th 2007 at the White Mountain Hotel and Resort. A reunion in 2007 did not happen. The next one was five years after this one, in 2010.
